Using the Camera Tool in Excel 2007

Sometimes you need to collate important fragments of data lying in different parts of your Excel sheet. You can use collate the data and cell referencing , but it  create a  lot of confusion and data redundancy. However, creating dynamic screenshots of particular patches of data can be a very viable option. You can create such screen grabs with the help of the camera tool provided with Excel 2007. The camera takes a picture of a  selected area, and you can then paste that picture wherever you want it. It updates automatically, and because it is a picture rather than a set of links to the original cells, any formatting of the source is automatically reflected in the picture. The picture will also adjust to include any rows or columns inserted within the source area.

To enable the Camera Tool in Excel  do  the following steps:

  • Right click the Office Button and enable “Show Quick Access Toolbar Below the Ribbon”

  • Click the arrow appearing near the “Quick Access Toolbar”.

  • In the drop-down menu, click the “More Commands…” option.
  • The “Customize” option is selected by default in the left-side panel.
  • In the “Choose commands from:”drop-down menu, select “Commands Not in the Ribbon”.
  • Select the “Camera” option, and click the “Add>>” button.

  • Click “OK” to close the “Excel Options” dialog box.
  • The “Camera” icon appears on the “Quick Access Toolbar”.

  • To take a snapshot of a cell range, select the cells.

NOTE: The camera tool does not work with charts.

  • Click on the “Camera” icon.
  • Go to the destination sheet and use the left-click of your mouse to draw the object.
  • You can go to the source data by double-clicking on the image.
  • You can create as multiple images in succession after selecting a cell range.

For times when Wi-Fi is not available, Truphone just released Truphone Anywhere, which utilizes local gateways for outgoing calls at low per-minute charges.

Platform/Network: Nokia handsets
Cost: Incoming free calls while on the Truphone network, low per-minute rates while on a GSM network. Outgoing calls are billed at very low per minute rates.

Difference Between a Virus, Worm and Trojan Horse

The most common blunder people make when the topic of a computer virus arises is to refer to a worm or Trojan horse as a virus. While the words Trojan, worm and virus are often used interchangeably, they are not exactly the same. Viruses, worms and Trojan Horses are all malicious programs that can cause damage to your computer, but there are differences among the three, and knowing those differences can help you to better protect your computer from their often damaging effects.

What Is a Virus?

A computer virus attaches itself to a program or file enabling it to spread from one computer to another, leaving infections as it travels. Like a human virus, a computer virus can range in severity: some may cause only mildly annoying effects while others can damage your hardware, software or files.

Almost all viruses are attached to an executable file, which means the virus may exist on your computer but it actually cannot infect your computer unless you run or open the malicious program. It is important to note that a virus cannot be spread without a human action, (such as running an infected program) to keep it going.

People continue the spread of a computer virus, mostly unknowingly, by sharing infecting files or sending e-mails with viruses as attachments in the e-mail.

What Is a Worm?

A worm is similar to a virus by design and is considered to be a sub-class of a virus. Worms spread from computer to computer, but unlike a virus, it has the capability to travel without any human action. A worm takes advantage of file or information transport features on your system, which is what allows it to travel unaided.

The biggest danger with a worm is its capability to replicate itself on your system, so rather than your computer sending out a single worm, it could send out hundreds or thousands of copies of itself, creating a huge devastating effect. One example would be for a worm to send a copy of itself to everyone listed in your e-mail address book. Then, the worm replicates and sends itself out to everyone listed in each of the receiver's address book, and the manifest continues on down the line.

Due to the copying nature of a worm and its capability to travel across networks the end result in most cases is that the worm consumes too much system memory (or network bandwidth), causing Web servers, network servers and individual computers to stop responding. In recent worm attacks such as the much-talked-about Blaster Worm, the worm has been designed to tunnel into your system and allow malicious users to control your computer remotely.

Shutdown/Restart your computer by an SMS or Email

Shutdown or restart your computer by just an SMS or send an Email from any email ID.

In some situation this trick would help you to shutdown/restart your computer remotely, say for you forgot to shutdown your computer or any of your application just gone to hanged and you are not there, your company people are nagging you over phone and they really don’t know how to play around, in that case the final option is restart and you do not want to inform your company:)

Ok, I will break it, You need MS office outlook( I just tried with MS office outlook 2003, so you can select what ever you want), smsEmail gateway number and a batch file

Here we go,you need to create separate batch files for shutdown the machine and for restart the machine.

The code for shutdown:-

C:\windows\system32\shutdown -s -f -t 00

type this code into a notepad and save as shutdown.bat (check your file extensions are enabled, otherwise it will save as txt format)

Just note, save the destination at somewhere which you do not use usually, otherwise if you click on the  bat file by chance, it will go to crazy

follow the same method for create a restart batch file and name it as restart.bat, the code for restart:-

C:\windows\system32\shutdown -r -f -t 00

The next step  is configure your outlook, if you want to configure  Gmail on your outlook follow this link:- http://support.email2pop.com/Gmail_Outlook.html

Then finally here is our deal,

First we go for shutdown option by sending an Email from  any Email account :-

Open your outlook, go to tools-Rules and alerts-press create new rule-start from a blank rule-press next. will get lot of options. Here you have to bit careful,

You can find there with specific word in the subject(check the enable box), in the down you can see specific word, there specify which word you want to use for shutdown your computer (you will get another popup and type which word you want, eg:- shutdown my computer now), then press next, scroll down, you can find start application( check the enable box), in the down you can see start application option, click the start application then select  the appropriate saved batch file which you created before( in this case shutdown.bat). press finish.

How we can test that  is this working? Go to any of your email account, sent an email to your outlook id with the exact subject(shutdown my computer now). once it received to your outlook the rule will generate and the application will run. Before that you need to do one more thing, enable the auto send/receive option, in that it will receive the email automatically, otherwise you cannot perform this trick remotely. Just go to tools-mail setup- press send/receive- will get another popup- do the same like as in the below  picture

For restart :-

Do the same like as the shutdown procedure, but you must careful about the specific subject word and application.

Give the word as something restart my computer now and after choose the correct application which you created early ( restart.bat)

then test it.

Finally, How we can work out this method by an sms?

For shutdown:-

You need to create again rules same like as what you did early. For shutdown, the subject should be like SMS from Mobile: +97150xxxx (add your number instead of the xxx) then follow same procedures for shutdown.

You need to find out the email gateway number for sending emails from your mobile.its quite simple to  find out a emailgateway number. I found one from  google, which i will give now  +6591653870

go to your text message, create new  and To number is +6591653870 ,  body as the email id which you selected for the rules, space then type something…the subject it will select automatically as SMS from Mobile: +97150xxxx (instead the xx your number will appear whe the email receive).

for more detail about the smsemail gateway check this :  http://www.visualtron.com/sms2email.htm

For restart:-

you need to create the rules again, when you create the outlook rule select the specific words in the senders address(just scroll down, there you can find this) click in the down for specify the word and type this word there: VisualGSM SMS2Email Server [support@visualtron.com]

There are many other sms_email gateways, you can use those also. if you select any other, just sent a test mail to your outlook account and check what subject and sender id  you received. Then you need to edit or create a new rule for it…

Don’t think it is complicated, it’s very easy to do…

Note :- your outlook should be always open/turned on  for work this trick, if you close your outlook then the rules can’t work out.

Speed Up Your Internet Bandwidth

Well, Many of you already know this tweak, but just want to recall it again.A nice little tweak for XP. Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)

Here’s how to get it back:

Click Start–>Run–>type “gpedit.msc”

This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:

Local Computer Policy–>Computer Configuration–>Administrative Templates–>Network–>QOS Packet Scheduler–>Limit Reservable Bandwidth

image

Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the ‘Explain’ tab :

“By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default.”

So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO.

This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.

Update Group Policy

Click Start–>Run–>type “cmd” to open command prompt.

type gpupdate /force

Or restart your computer for GP update.
